SWATI JOSHI
Social Design Practitioner

Hi! I am Swati and I am a graduate of Social Design from Ambedkar University, New Delhi. Before pursuing my Masters’, I was managing a community radio station named Radio Nazariya, situated in Ahmedabad, my hometown.

During my four years of working, that is, from 2015 to 2019, I was able to be a part of a space that helped me understand the nuances of working on issues of social justice and human rights. The opportunity to work with people from different backgrounds helped shape my perspective of the kind of work that I wish to do – which is to create spaces of participation and equality throughout the various processes of the work. Leading a team of radio producers, interns, and volunteers helped me understand the importance of good leadership and its impact on the work and the people involved. Along with experience in management, I was given numerous opportunities to experiment with audio and visual forms of storytelling through different projects of the parent organization (DRISHTI).

In 2019, I joined the Social Design course at Ambedkar University as a stepping stone to my journey of understanding the complex journey from problem to solution. The course opened new ways of looking at the world and provided me the opportunity to build on my existing experience and skill set. Through various types of projects, I was able to experiment with different channels and mediums that can be presented as ‘solutions’.

My current work consists of consultancy projects around communication and design research, and I hope to continue my learning by collaborating with different organizations and individuals.

Apart from this, I engage in theatre and performing arts projects, with the aim to learn more about the different mediums of communicating a message to the audience. I hope to someday incorporate my experiences of this field in the projects that I take up in the future.
